Business world has moved on rapidly and if you are a part, you have to keep up with the change. Business laptops play an important role as they help you handle a large fraction of your work. It would mostly be used for creating and editing presentations, documents, web browsing, e mail and running some other software. While handling your office stuff won’t need any special hardware, there are a lot of other factors that you need to take care of. We tell you what to look for when you are out to choose your business companion and then suggest some options available in market.
What to look for?
Display- Make sure that the display is large enough for you to comfortably read text. Prefer 1080p displays as they would give you sharper fonts and you will have more workspace on the same screen size. A large screen would also help you share screen content with others easily and would be comfortable for them to see.
Processor and graphics- While you won’t run many heavy applications and most of the times it would just be Microsoft Office, you might need to run some high end business software. Some of these software’s are resource hungry and need a strong processor to handle them without any hiccups. We suggest getting one with an Intel i5 processor running at a decent clock speed. i7 is good too but they tend to heat up a lot and consume more power. While you can do away with the onboard graphics, even a low end dedicated graphic card won’t hurt.
Memory and Storage- Your laptop will have to handle a lot of multitasking and thus we suggest you to choose as much RAM as you can. 4GB is the least you should go for. If your work doesn’t include handling large files, prefer going for a solid state drive as they are faster and more reliable. But if you have to store large files, you would have to go for standard hard disk drive as SSDs don’t are costly and don’t come in very high capacities.
Connectivity- Make sure the laptop you choose has all the connectivity options you need, and some more. You never know what you might need to transfer content so the more you have, the better it would be. Your laptop should have Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Ethernet, USB (3.0 preferred), VGA port, HDMI out and memory card reader. Any other options are welcome too.
Support- The brand you choose should not only be a reliable brand but it should have a good rep for after sales support and services. You might run into minor issues with your laptop and good support engineering might help you tackle the problem easily. Also make sure that you get onsite warranty as you would travel around a lot with your laptop.
